A collection of lessons I’ve learned…

• You can pick your friends. Choose wisely. Character matters!
• You cannot pick your relatives or your neighbors. Set boundaries. Be kind to those who respect your boundaries. Be blunt with those who don’t. Use No Trespassing signs if necessary. Sue those who still don’t get it. Respect other’s boundaries.
• An obligation is something you are required to do. A favor is something you choose to do. Don’t let anybody trick you into thinking that their obligation to you is a favor for you.
• Fullfill your obligations, and don’t expect anything in return.
• Pick your favors carefully, and don’t expect anything in return, but do return others’ favors in kind.
• You can learn a lot by listening to other people tell about their experiences. Just be prepared for the possibility that you might learn more from it than they did!
